COUNSELOR EDUCATION ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

The Virginia Tech School of Education is seeking a colleague to join us in the Counselor Education Program to contribute to our vision of preparing professional counselors and leaders in the counseling field. We invite applications for an Assistant Professor in Counselor Education position, in our CACREP-accredited program, located in Blacksburg, VA. The position is for a tenure-track, academic year appointment with opportunities for summer school employment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong potential for scholarly productivity, as the successful candidate will be expected to develop and conduct a research agenda resulting in publications in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, clinical supervision, and advising of master’s and doctoral students. The master’s degree program includes both School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling tracks. Teaching at our Roanoke Center will be required; Roanoke is approximately 45 minutes from the main campus in Blacksburg.

We are seeking a candidate who identifies with the American Counseling Association and abides by the ACA Code of Ethics and the Virginia Tech Principles of Community (http://www.vt.edu/diversity/poc-doc.pdf
). In addition, a doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP accredited program is required at the time of appointment (August 10, 2014). Experience with and commitment to working with diverse populations is required. An identifiable research agenda and demonstrated ability to write for scholarly publications is required. Experience in seeking and/or securing external funding to support research and programming is preferred. Experience teaching with distance technology is preferred. Strong preference will be given to candidates who hold an LPC, and/or are eligible for licensure in Virginia, or who have experience as a professional school counselor. Professional post-master’s counseling experience is required.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Start date: August 10, 2014
