We are currently seeking qualified applicants at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level for an opening in the SHSU Counselor Education Program.

Start Date (UPDATED):
We are seeking qualified applicants to join SHSU Counseling Program in the Spring, Summer, or Fall semester of 2014.  The position will remain open until filled.

Degree Requirements:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP institution

Description of Position (UPDATED):
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for teaching either two or three courses (depending upon whether the teaching load includes doctoral courses) in the Counseling Program for the fall and spring semesters, as well as summer teaching as needed.  We are seeking an individual well versed in research to teach courses related to research methods and statistical analysis, as well as courses across the CACREP core.  Courses in the SHSU Counseling Program are offered at three locations, Huntsville, The Woodlands, and North Houston, so the individual selected for the position will need to demonstrate a willingness to teach at each of these sites.  We also offer counseling courses online, so the qualified individual needs to demonstrate proficiency with technology related to online course delivery.  The position requires that the individual be involved in: student advising, supervising graduate students, engaging in scholarship and external funding activities, providing leadership in the program, serving on dissertation committees, and serving at the community, state, regional, university, and/or national levels.

Qualifications:
The qualified applicant will have earned a doctoral degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited counseling program.  Expertise in research methodology and statistical analysis is preferred.  The qualified applicant will also demonstrate an existing track record of published research (Assistant/Associate/Full), or evidence of the potential for scholarly productivity (Assistant).  Because the Counseling Program at SHSU offers hybrid and online courses, proficiency with technology/online teaching is preferred.   The candidate must be either currently licensed, eligible for licensure, or actively seeking licensure in Texas.  The individual should also demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and students in a CACREP accredited Master’s and Doctoral program.

Environment:
Sam Houston State University is located in historic Huntsville, TX and is nested within the Sam Houston National Forrest.  It lies along I-45 about one hour north of Houston at the boundary between the Piney Woods region of East Texas and the Prairies and Lakes region of Central Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 16,400 and a faculty of 650.  The Counseling Program at SHSU offers courses at three locations: our main campus in Huntsville, as well as our new facility in The Woodlands, TX (approximately 30 minutes south from Huntsville towards Houston,) and in North Houston.

Duties:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: (1) teaching graduate level courses in counselor education, (2) advising and supervising graduate level students in the program, (3) advising students in research, theses, and dissertations, (4) participating in professional, program, department, college and university committees.  Furthermore, the person will make efforts to recruit new students into the counselor education programs from school districts, community agencies, and at professional conferences. Candidates must be willing to teach at both on and off campus locations.

Salary:
The salary for the position begins at $50,000 and is commensurate with experience.

Application Process (UPDATED):

Review of applications will begin October 25th.  The position will remain open until filled.  Interest packets must include the following: a letter of interest addressing experience requirements and duties, philosophy of teaching; current vitae; three letters of reference with permission to contact references, and copies of all transcripts (originals will be required if hired).  All materials and queries should be addressed to Dr. Jeffrey M.
