The Counselor Education and Supervision program at Penn State University is inviting applicants for our CACREP-accredited Ph.D. program that has long history of over 50-years of excellence. Consistently ranked among the top ten in the country by U.S. News and World Report and the Chronicle of Higher Education, our program’s mission is to prepare students for work as counselor educators, clinical supervisors, and advanced practitioners in academic and counseling settings.

As part of the doctoral program, students can focus on a specialty area of interest, for example, school counseling, mental health counseling, or rehabilitation counseling. Interdisciplinary study, research, and writing are emphasized. We accept students for a fall start date and all current full-time students receive financial assistance in the form of fellowships or graduate assistantships which pay full tuition plus a monthly stipend.

Faculty members are fully committed to our doctoral students and their professional development. Faculty members typically advise one doctoral student per cohort group which provides significant personalized attention. The faculty are active in teaching, research, and professional service, having received many national awards in these areas. Most faculty members currently serve or have served as president of national counseling associations and organizations, including Chi Sigma Iota, the National Career Development Association, and American Rehabilitation Counseling Association.
