A residential university serving more than 20,500 students, Georgia Southern is recognized for providing all of the benefits of a major university with the feeling of a much smaller college. Founded in 1906, the University offers more than 100 campus-based and online degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels through eight colleges. The more than 900 acre park-like campus is located in Statesboro, a classic Main Street community near historic Savannah and Hilton Head Island.

) offers undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare students for work in public education, community agencies, and higher education. The Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development (http://coe.georgiasouthern.edu/lthd/

), one of three departments within the College of Education, includes four distinct programs - Counselor Education, School Psychology, Educational Leadership, and Instructional Technology. The CACREP-accredited program in Counselor Education offers graduate degrees at the master's and educational specialist levels with concentrations in clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and higher education student services. 

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development, the Assistant Professor position requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities as well as a terminal degree. The responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and CACREP Counselor Education core, advising and supervising graduate level students, conducting scholarly research, publishing, and providing service to the University, profession, and community. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Required Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in Counselor Education by August 1, 2014;
• License-eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Georgia;
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and multicultural competencies;
• Effective communication and leadership skills;
• Ability to teach graduate courses on-and off-campus, and offer graduate advisement;
• Ability to teach a range of clinical mental health counseling courses;
• Evidence of potential for research, scholarly activities, publishing in peer-reviewed professional journals, and service; and
• Ability to use and model technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Earned Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program;
• Clinical experience as a professional counselor;
• Experience providing clinical supervision for field based courses;
• Active membership in professional counseling associations;
• Interest in developing degree programs;
• Successful external grant writing; and
• Experience teaching online.
