The Elementary School Counselor works with a team of educators as part of the school’s overall program in social emotional learning (SEL). As part of this team, the counselor helps oversee and implement a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate program that promotes self-awareness, emotional literacy, Christian values and spiritual awareness, compassion and service, multicultural awareness and inclusivity, impulse control, conflict resolution and problem solving. In addition, the counselor has specific areas of responsibility that include:

• Individual Counseling • Small Group Counseling • Crisis Intervention • Consultation with parents, teachers, nurses, and administrators • Referrals to school support services or community resources • Supervision and support of Morning Meetings • Consultation on national trends and developments in counseling • Collaboration with teachers to identify and assure success of at-risk students • Collaboration with the counselors in the Middle School and High School • Parent Education

In addition to experience in elementary school counseling and a strong educational background, successful candidates should demonstrate a love of working with children, the ability to interact well with parents and teachers, and a willingness to work positively with colleagues and the larger team of guidance professionals in our school.
