Dear FGCU
Community,
It is that time
of year again where we are gearing up for our annual South Village New Student
Move-In and are looking for volunteers to assist us! As part of the First Year
Residential Experience (FYRE) Program, this is our first opportunity to ensure
that our students’ transition from home to college is a seamless one.
This year we
have 2 dates where move-in will occur:
a) Wednesday,
August 14th (we will be looking to have volunteers from 8am-Noon)
b) Thursday,
August 15th (staggered check-in from 8am-5pm)
Please
note that we will only be taking a limited number of volunteers on Wednesday as
Thursday will be our busiest day; we would appreciate as much help as possible
for Thursday, August 15th!
This is a great
opportunity to introduce yourself and/or your organization to over 1,700
incoming first-year students and their families. We will need volunteers to
help direct traffic, monitor parking lots and most importantly - assist
students and families with unloading vehicles and moving belongings into the
buildings. We highly encourage your organization or office to wear your group
shirt to show your pride and make a great first impression!
The move-in
process is staggered by floor for each building, so students will be arriving
throughout the day. Any assistance you can offer will be greatly
appreciated. Service learning hours are also available for student
volunteers.
Please send all
responses to Denise Keating, our Volunteer Coordinator at dkeating@fgcu.edu by August 7th
at 3pm. Please include the name of your department/student group, a
contact person (with name/email/cell phone), the number of volunteers you are
looking to have (estimates are also welcome), and the day(s) and time(s) that
you are available to volunteer.
Thank you in
advance for your help; the University community has always been very supportive
during this busy time and we could not be as successful as we are without you!
Sincerely,
Lindsey Johns
