Position Description
Mental Health Counselor at Ringling College assists with the operation of the college’s Counseling Center; directly responsible for assisting in the student’s adjustment and personal/social development; works with an interdisciplinary staff with primary focus on direct psychotherapy services to students, including assessment and diagnosis of psychological and cognitive disorders, including LD/ADHD Disorders. The Counselor provides consultation and outreach services and prevention training to members of the college community. This position requires sharing of after-hours on-call emergency duties during the academic year. This is a full-time 10-month position and includes both benefits and summers off.
Successful incumbent will have outstanding skills in providing therapy in a time-limited context; with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across cultures and with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, campus departments and student groups; expertise in and the ability to provide consultation to campus constituents on a range of mental health issues. Knowledge of current legal issues in higher education and mental health, and of relevant requirements for appropriate documentation. After-hours availability to respond to student mental health emergencies when on-call and ability to assess levels of students distress and independently engage in effective safety planning. Ability to lead large and small training groups for parents, students, staff, faculty, and others. Knowledge of developmental issues and current trends relevant to college students.
Minimum Qualifications
Supervision is available for recent graduates of LCSW and LMHC programs and Psychologists Post-doc candidates and early career therapists are also encouraged to apply.
• Advanced degree (terminal masters or doctoral degree) in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or other closely related field leading towards licensure for practice.
• License eligible within 18 months by the State of Florida
• Experience working with college students and an awareness of developmental perspective.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency.

• Background in developing, delivering, and assessing effectiveness of outreach activities that include suicide prevention and prevention approaches to substance abuse issues on campus
