School Counselor Part time with the hope to expand to full time by August 2017

Description: Presidio Hill School (PHS) is a progressive Transitional-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade independent school in San Francisco, California. Established in 1918, Presidio Hill School is the oldest progressive independent school in the state. Child-centered, inclusive and community oriented, the school graduates students who know themselves well, are creative and critical thinkers, and who love learning. The school focuses on social and emotional as well as cognitive learning as the needed balance to a happy and successful life. Presidio Hill School seeks an outstanding, experienced School Counselor to provide guidance to and work collaboratively with all members of the school community to promote an atmosphere of emotional, social, and physical wellness for the approximately 220 students. The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to work in a diverse, inclusive, values-based community. Utilizing both counseling and classroom teaching skill sets, the School Counselor is expected to design and deliver culturally relevant prevention and intervention programs for students, faculty, and families. The School Counselor will be a member of the Student Service Support Team, consisting of the Learning Center Specialists, teachers and academic administrators. A passion for working with children ages 4-14, a flexible attitude, a commitment to lifelong learning, an openness to collaborate, and a sense of humor are essential.

Key Responsibilities:


• Monitor students’ social, emotional, and behavioral progress;
• Provide consultation to administrators, faculty, staff, and parents regarding students of concern;
• Meet with students individually and in group settings to provide support and guidance on child development issues and/or in times of crisis;
• Coordinate and facilitate relevant parent education programming;
• Meet with parents and participate in parent conferences, as needed;
• Maintain a current referral database of mental health service providers, and act as the liaison between the school and outside professional support;
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement programs and curricula that integrate the school’s mission and core values, particularly pertaining to SEL, Health & Human Development, and Mindfulness;
• Maintain a high degree of visibility and accessibility throughout the campus;
• Attend faculty and team meetings;
• Supervise lunch and other recess breaks;
• Pursue appropriate professional growth & development
Requirements:
• Graduate degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or other applicable field
• Five years’ experience in a relevant environment
• Current license and/or credential as a clinical social worker, psychologist, school counselor or related field
• Knowledge of and ability to apply best practices from the mental health field in a school setting
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission and core values of the school
• Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
• Collaborative and team-oriented approach to problem-solving
