DESCRIPTION OF JOB AND CORTEZ COMMUNITY

The job description includes providing classroom guidance lessons, small group and individual solution focus meetings with students. The individual hired will be collaborating with our team of staff to address student needs on the Child Study team. The school counselor will also refer students to community agencies if he/she would benefit from more intensive supports. The position requires utilizing data driven and research based practices to demonstrate effectiveness. The school counselor may also build schedules and coordinate the PARCC (standardized) assessment. 

Cortez, Colorado, located near the Four Corners,  rest on the fringe of desert with the altitude at 6200. The climate is consider mild throughout the year and encompasses amazing outdoor recreation activities. Phil's World and Boggy Draw are a great trails for mountain bikers. Hiking trails surround the area including Mesa Verde/Hovenweep National Monument, and Sand Canyon/Canyon of the Ancients. Spend some time rafting, canoeing, fishing or paddleboarding on the Dolores River, Summit Lake, McPhee Reservoir or other bodies of water in the area.  Cortez Parks and Recreation is also a great place to swim, weight train or participate in fitness classes.
