Job Description
The Assistant Director oversees advising functions, applies specialized knowledge of academic and career fields to advising practice, provides oversight and training for Academic Advisors and support staff in practices and procedures, and may serve on college or university committees. Serves as a liaison to Department Chairs, Program Leaders and other campus partners. Manages daily operations of the Exploratory Advising office such as advisor caseload management, coordination of work assignments, and tracking and maintenance of advising related data. This position does have an assigned advising caseload.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education & Student Affairs, Counselor Education, Psychology, or closely related field.
Nine years of professional full-time experience working in an academic advising environment, or three years of experience at the level of Academic Advisor III.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory and leadership experience in a higher education advising setting.
Experience developing and implementing programming, such as workshops, orientations, or information sessions, for exploratory and/or alternative student populations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of theoretical models of college student development and students in transition.
Knowledge of advising theory and models of development advising.
Knowledge of state statutes and rules of higher education within the state of Florida.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
Strong leadership skills and ability to use effective decision making and conflict resolution techniques.
Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and other constituents.
Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
Ability to adapt quickly to a changing and fast-paced environment.
Ability to demonstrate a personal philosophy of care for others.
Salary Range$61,000-64,000 negotiable based on level of experience
