Department Chair, Counseling - Associate/Full Professor



12 Month Position

Florida Gulf Coast University invites applications for the position of Associate/Professor of Counseling and Program Chair starting in the Fall 2020. FGCU offers the unique opportunity to help grow a founding program at a young University. As part of the dynamic and growing Marieb College of Health and Human Services and the first clinic in the Marieb College, the Department of Counseling features a CACREP accredited student-centered, field-based programs in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling as well as three post-master’s certificates, and the new Community Counseling Center. This position reports to the Dean of Marieb College of Health & Human Services.

This position is a 12-month appointment and qualifies for a continuing contract which is a rolling three year contract. The successful practitioner candidate will be expected to collaboratively lead the educational program, faculty, students, and staff in developing a world class reputation, teach graduate courses in a CACREP accredited counseling program(s), have a record of professional service, research, and extramural funding and create a culture of interprofessional education and practice competencies for counseling graduates. The Department Chair has authority and responsibility for the delivery of the Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs in accordance with the College and University strategic plans. Candidates will be expected to fulfill scholarly research requirements and service responsibilities to the department, college, university, and the community as well as advance the Counseling profession. Candidates will be expected to sustain and grow innovations in programs through: national recruitment activities; expanded relationships with school and community partners; maintaining a culture of achievement and high-expectations for faculty, students and staff; securing external grant and gift funding, mentorship of junior faculty; new program development including a potential doctorate program, fostering scholarship productivity and interprofessional activities; overseeing the growth and development of the Community Counseling Center and engaging alumnae in College development as part of the Marieb College continuum of community health care service clinics.

The Department of Counseling encourages collaborative and interprofessional research and teaching and the next chair is expected to develop and mentor colleagues as well as lead by example of excellence in teaching, service and a focused line of research. The successful candidate will show evidence of visionary leadership as well as an understanding of the contemporary and futuristic context in which counseling and related health and education programs operate.
