ASCA Member
Highlight: Michelle Stevens
|
We're excited to introduce ASCA
Member Highlights. This new monthly feature, included in each
edition of ASCA Aspects, will showcase the great works of ASCA
members.
This month's member highlight is Michelle Stevens. Stevens is an
elementary school counselor at Kemp Elementary in Powder Springs,
Ga., and Georgia's 2018 school counselor of the
year. In her role, Stevens has created ways to connect with
families by offering quarterly parenting workshops to build
community relationships and boost parents’ skills, based on
assessed needs. Topics have included digital citizenship and
bulling prevention, with speakers from Cobb Prevention and
Intervention, school psychologists, tutoring facilities,
nutritionists and community counselors.
Stevens also supports college and career education for elementary
students with a Careers on Wheels program and College Day.
“Students at the college, university and secondary schools speak about
life in the day of a college student. The elementary students are
captivated…These presentations explain what students need to do
from elementary to high school in order to be college ready,”
Stevens said.
