This is a Career Service position with the Florida Department of Health in Lee County.  The Health Educator is highly professional position with lead responsible for linking Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive clients to care in Lee County.  This position will work with the current Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes (HIV/AIDS) and Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD) intervention staff to identify clients that are not in care.  The position will locate the client and offer services including care and treatment and partner notification.  The incumbent will work with community partners in the identification of out of care clients and those clients that have been released from the county jail.  This position is classified as a sensitive position. The Incumbent handles protected health information on a “need to know” basis following Department of Health, HIPAA and Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information.  Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED –

• A bachelor's degree from a U.S. accredited college or university with a major in health education, community or public health; or
• A bachelor's degree from a U.S. accredited college or university with a major in nursing, one of the biological sciences, education, public relations, communications or one of the behavioral sciences and one year of professional experience in providing health education services; or
• A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, one of the biological sciences, education, public relations, communications or one of the behavioral sciences can substitute for the required professional experience.
