School Counselor Job Summary
 
Provides counseling services for students by designing and implementing a multi-layered, comprehensive, and accountable guidance program in which equity, access, and academic success for all students is the focus. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.  Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.  
Essential Functions 
Percent of Job 
Design and implement a data-driven, comprehensive guidance program to meet the academic, career, social/personal needs of students at the school as outlined in the District School Counseling Plan 
10% 
Conduct classroom guidance activities focused on academic, career and social emotional learning 
10% 
Monitor each student’s State Assessment requirements and course requirements for promotion and graduation 
10% 
Implement, in conjunction with teachers and staff, the Duval County Public Schools career program to provide for students information on curriculum and specific programs, postsecondary opportunities, scholarships and financial aid and career opportunities 
10% 
Make student referrals to school and community agencies and provide regular feedback to teachers, as appropriate 
10% 
Offer developmental and preventive individual and group counseling for all students 
10% 
Conduct planned articulation and orientation program for feeder schools 
10% 
Provide students, parents and teachers with support, consultative services and training as needed and as appropriate 
5% 
Serve as a resource person for school staff on guidance-related activities and techniques 
10% 
Coordinate district/community counseling services conducted in the school, including the services of the student services team that serves the school 
   10% 
Supervise the maintenance and procedures regarding student records 
5% 

Qualifications 

Education:  Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university. 
Experience:  None 
Certifications & Licenses:  Florida Department of Education’s Specialization Requirements for Certification in Guidance and Counseling
