Lower Division School Counselor

The Lower Division (PK-Grade 5) seeks an outstanding Counselor who has a demonstrated passion for working with children. He/she will:
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to meet the developmental and emotional needs of students
  • Communicate and meet with parents regarding physical, social, emotional, or psychiatric concerns
  • Work closely with the Lower Division Learning Specialist and other members of the student support team
  • Refer to appropriate community mental health professionals when necessary; interview and review credentials of local professionals for possible referrals
  • Communicate with and support teachers regarding students with special social, physical or emotional needs
  • Act as a personal counseling resource for academic counselors and classroom teachers
  • Serve on all-school counseling team; consult regarding trends and sibling concerns across divisions
  • Serve on the Lower Division administrative team
  • Serve on the Crisis Management Team
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records, and routinely update director
  • Coordinate Lower Division Health Support System; provide non-disciplinary pathway for addressing sensitive student health concerns
  • Serve on the Lower Division Admission Committee
  • Participate in and contribute to Parent Coffees
  • Participate regularly in continuing education opportunities; remain current in educational counseling practices
Although not required, the ideal candidate will have previous elementary school counseling experience and an advanced degree in school counseling.
