Francis
W. Parker School is seeking an Upper School Counselor who will provide
social/emotional support to students in grades 9 through 12, as well as
their families. Working closely with Upper School administration,
Learning Resource specialists, Upper School teachers, parents, and
outside professionals, the Upper School Counselor identifies and
addresses social/emotional and health-related issues with individual
students as well as with student groups. To this end, the Counselor is
responsible for the following responsibilities:
- Directly counsel individuals – short term (and, on occasion, long term) supportive therapy
- Coordinate staffings for students in crisis or experiencing academic or emotional difficulties
- Consult regularly with teachers and families
- Teach a ninth grade Health class as well as an upper-class elective in Personal Wellness
- Coordinate services within the school between teachers, Learning Resource teachers and other professionals
- Coordinate services with school officials and outside professions (e.g., tutors, therapists)
- Refer students and families to outside providers
- Facilitate self help and support groups (e.g. new student groups, student of color groups)

Deliver workshops/talks on parenting and education (e.g. drug education
and prevention, homework guidelines, study habits, etc.)
- Provide parent education and support programming
- Provide drug education and support
- Participate in and help facilitate student grade-level retreats
- Help supervise graduate practicum students from local graduate programs in psychology
