POSITION TITLE:    School Counselor, part time

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 We are seeking personnel who know how to create and implement innovative and best-in-class educational student support services. ChallengeU provides a nurturing environment for students who are attending online high school. In conjunction with leadership members from ChallengeU, the part time school counselor will work to design a training and development plan for future to-be-hired part time school counselors and recruiting agents. The primary training objectives for the future school counselors are to facilitate the communications between the parents/guardians of the students with representatives from the student's home school and for personnel from ChallengeU to increase the academic, social, intellectual, and behavioral benefit for each student. The training to the recruiting agents will include how to analyze student transcripts as well as how to determine a student's ability to become academically successful with an online educational program.  Lastly, the training will include potential responses between recruiting agents both school representatives and parents in a manner that will respond to their questions in a respectful and accurate manner.  This is a part time position that will average 10 to 15 working hours per week based on the approval of a work schedule by the supervisor for an anticipated three month period.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The part time school counselor is expected to perform any combination of the essential functions listed below. This listing is not intended to be an exhaustive description of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this job classification, but are intended to accurately

  • Work closely with members of the ChallengeU leadership team in the identification of training and professional development requirements for future to-be-hired school counselors and recruiting agents;
  • Create and maintain a positive working relationship;
  • Create and continually develop, as part of a team, a response to anticipated questions parents may have as their child engages in an online learning program;
  • Create and continually develop, as part of a team, a response to anticipated questions school registrars may have as their students engage in an online learning program with ChallengeU.
  • Design, as part of a team, a training matrix for future to-be-hired school counselors and for recruiting agents;
  • Plan training for school counselors to communicate with and through school registrars and other appropriate school representatives, to determine the academic curriculum for each student based on their previous academic achievements with the primary goal that each student will complete the required course work leading to graduation from high school;
  • Create training scenarios designed to develop school counselors and recruiting agents to address questions or concerns from the student's parents/guardians with respect to their child's education, academic achievements, graduation requirements, the student's level of engagement in their online academic program, as well as providing other support services as deemed necessary or needed by the student, their parent/guardian, or a representative from their home school;
  • As a member of a team, discuss and assist in the development of a method to obtain information from a public school about their virtual program offerings, program requirements, and procedures to assist ChallengeU recruitment agents;
  • Design an approach for school counselors and recruiting agents to document and manage their communication sharing between school registrars or other school representatives and ChallengeU personnel;
  • Maintain an accurate record of your work;
  • Prepare strategies for school counselors and recruiting agents to identify and build positive working relationships with pertinent community support organizations and resources;
  • Consistently demonstrate an ability and willingness to work effectively and collaboratively with your supervisor, colleagues, and other ChallengeU staff members;
  • Demonstrate and apply excellent oral and written communication skills in addition to positive and appropriate human relations skills;
  • Reinforce in all training modules that school counselors and recruiting agents will adhere to all local, state, and federal mandatory reporting requirements with respect to the safety and well-being of each students;
  • Reinforce in all training modules that the school counselors and recruiting agents will take all necessary and safety precautions to protect student confidentiality as well as the appropriate use and management of student data accessible through ChallengeU, Inc.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by ChallengeU, Inc. policy and administrative expectations;
  • Professional development modules will reinforce that all team members will adhere to the policies and rules governing student conduct and comply with the professional and reasonable rules of online behavior with a student, their family members, and school representatives;
  • Design guidelines for school counselors and recruiting agents to establish relationships with colleagues and students which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual;
  • Strive to continually improve professional and technical competence
  • Participate and contribute in ChallengeU program planning and share responsibility for the improvement of the online program and support services; and
  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Masters degree in public school counseling from an accredited college or university;
  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, a public school license in school counseling;
  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology inherent to fulfill your job requirements as a part time school counselor for an online educational service;
  • Demonstrate a natural and positive curiosity to continue learning and applying technology in an online educational environment;
  • Online instructional experience preferred; and
    Possess at least five years of full-time public school counseling experience within the last eight years                   

SUPERVISOR: CEO

 

WORK SETTINGS:

·         Remote work site;

·         Work conducted from home or other settings as needed or determined by the supervisor;

·         Extensive phone and online work required.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form;

·         Ability to communicate effectively through various means of technology;

·         Possess visual, hearing, and speaking skills to proficiently fulfill position responsibilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Extended work hours and work schedule may be necessary (to be approved in advance by your supervisor);

·         Required to attend administrative meetings which may occur during evening or weekend hours;

·         Flexible work schedule available with prior approval from your supervisor;

·         Be resourceful and creative with technology;

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and student information systems such as Power School or Gradelink;

·         Demonstrate an openness to continuous change and learning;

·         Accurate and timely documentation of work data required; and

·         Maintain and archive a list of contacts and appointments.

 

OVERTIME ELIGIBLE:    Yes, with prior supervisor approval

Start Date

October 1, 2020 or as negotiated

Salary

$30 - $40  per hour

Work Schedule

10 – 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule anticipating employment from Oct 1 – Dec 31 2020
