Summer Camp Inclusion Counselor

Description
This position is responsible for assisting the site director by implementing participant Inclusion Plans, and facilitating a positive inclusive summer camp program.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • The primary function of this position is to support the Camp Counselors in their group activities by supporting camp participants with physical, developmental and emotional disabilities, leading small groups of children in various activities, entertainment and educational programs that include: sports, games, arts & crafts, swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing, field trips, and special events.
  • Implement individual Inclusion plans, assist with active participation in activities, transitioning between programs, provide positive behavior support, conduct observations and documentation, communication with staff and participant family members and caregivers, serve as a positive role model.
  • Track participant progress, provide weekly reports to ADA Coordinator, attend trainings and meetings, maintain confidentiality.
Education, Experience, Licensing
  • Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience working with large groups of youths, children of all ages preschool through teens.
  • Previous experience working in a camp setting, teaching children with special needs or 1 year experience working with youth with disabilities is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening (Finger Prints) is required.
Supplemental Information
MANDATORY CAMP IN-SERVICE TRAINING will be held:  June 8-12, 2020
CAMP DATES: June 15-July 31, 2020.

 
  • Must be able to perform extensive physical activity and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must also be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • All camp staff is expected to commit to working the entire summer camp plus training week.
  • Camp staffing levels are subject to minimum enrollment and camper participation.
  • In an instance where too few children enroll, staff may be subject to layoff or relocation.
  • This position does not have benefits.
  • Work days and hours for this position will vary.
  • In an instance where too few children enroll, staff may be subject to relocation.
Locations include Estero Recreation Center, North Fort Myers Recreation Center, Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center and Veterans Recreation Center.
