Job Description for Camp Director
Camp Kaleidoscope at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church is seeking
a Camp Director for its 4-day summer camp for kids 4th-6th
grade with mental health issues at our church campus on beautiful
Marco Island. Camp will be held June 29th-July
2nd.
Compensation-$2500 stipend for approximately 3.5 weeks of
work
Our camp will promote respect for self and others, teamwork,
respecting differences and mindfulness through group activities that strengthen
peer interaction and teach coping skills. We will participate in a wide range of
activities including yoga, meditation, making art, dance, hiking.
Job Responsibilities:
Oversee every aspect of the daily operations of the camp
including:

Regularly attend biweekly planning meetings from
February until camp is held and advise planning committee as needed; perform
tasks as needed by the Camp Planning Coordinator.

Lead multiple large group meetings of campers throughout
the day to announce activities, talk about camp values and act as the camp
cheerleader.
·
Lead a counselor staff of 10-15 individuals in
their facilitating a positive camper experience for 15-25 campers including
daily reflection meetings for counselors and camp leaders after camp ends daily
to assess how the day went.
·
Act as the transition communicator for campers
between all camp activities, alerting campers and counselors when an activity has
ended and when it is time to go to the next activity.
·
Maintain a high camper morale through energetic
pep talks and leading of camp songs.
·
Introduce guest speakers/presenters to campers.
·
Liaise with Camp Leaders (made up of church
members who are offering services in support of the camp) to ensure timely
delivery of services (programming and activities) to campers.
·
Respond immediately to and resolve any camper or
counselor situations of conflict, abuse or harmful speech/actions.
·
Attend and help to facilitate a training session
for counselors (to be held June 27th and June 28th).
·
Attend post-camp meeting to evaluate the camp’s
effectiveness and plan for the next year.
Relevant Skills Sought:

Experience working with elementary-age kids,
especially 4th-6th grades
·
Experience working in and/or leading summer
camps
·
Experience working with kids with mental health
issues preferred
·
Strong leadership skills

Strong verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills
·
Computer competency and familiarity with office
and maintenance equipment
·
Openness to talking about spirituality,
including Christianity
Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education,
counseling, physical education, social work, psychology or a related field
preferred (but we will consider candidates who are current college students as
well).
A Master of Social Work degree and/or a LCSW is highly
desirable as are students enrolled in an MSW program.
We will consider candidates who have 2+ years of
professional experience related to the requirements for this position in lieu
of education.
