FGCU Department of Counseling School Counseling students participated in an outreach event today
at a Sarasota school, Suncoast School for Innovative Studies. The purpose of the
Art-School Counseling initiative was to spread the concept of celebrating
diversity among the third-fifth graders. School Counseling Assistant Professor,
Dr. Ann Tilman, collaborated with Art Teacher, Ms. Kelly King, and Executive
Director, Dr. Sherika Evans on the event.
The adult and elementary students teamed up to discuss the value
of their individuality and what they can contribute to a team when they
integrate diverse perspectives. The art activity included creation of eyes,
which will be combined to reflect the theme. The hope is for their work to be
part of a long-term art instillation.
