Summary of Responsibilities:
  • The Counselor for Grades 9-12 will be responsible for providing counseling services to FAU HS students, especially in the area of social emotional supports and interventions.
  • Oversee the K-12 Comprehensive School Counseling Program for social emotional health and well-being of students.
  • Execute on a multi-tiered system approach of a comprehensive school counseling program that incorporates a consistent framework to work with individual students and groups of students in developing supports and interventions while serving to facilitate the work of school teams in supporting learners.
  • Coordinate Tier One Universal supports for students in the K-12 model. Delivery of social emotional interventions through the Steps to Success course and other large group settings.
  • Coordinate Tier Two and Three counseling supports for the K-12 Comprehensive School counseling program. Delivery of Tier Two and Three social emotional counseling services for students in grades 9-12.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of crisis response, protocols and processes.
  • Provide consultation with K-12 school counselors on an ongoing basis for alignment of processes and services.
  • Work closely with faculty and administration to grow the collective capacity of social emotional competence and skills in creating and facilitating opportunities for professional learning.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of proactive advising program, near peer mentoring program and the dual enrollment process for FAU High School students, and work collaboratively with school and university staff to facilitate the dual enrollment process.
  • Assist with administering online surveys relating to supporting academic preparation, and social and emotional support of students.
  • Assist in coordinating professional learning for staff in the areas of cultural competence, social and emotional learning, and gifted and talented.
  • Assist in the preparation of students from the high school educational environment to a university education environment, which includes academic, social and emotional supports.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors, academic and school advisors, FAU HS staff , and university staff to coordinate the annual FAU HS student application, selection and admission process.
  • Conduct various types of presentations including parent meetings, grant meetings, student data meetings, information sessions and presentations to market, recruit and retain FAU High School students.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of orientations and meetings for high school students.
  • Collaborate with academic school counselor to support completion of graduation requirements, assessments, community service requirements, and other academic-related tasks needed for graduation.
  • Assist in providing data as needed aligned to various approved grant initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization required at the time of application.
  • Eligibility for Florida Certificate in PK-12 Guidance and Counseling required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the following areas:
  • Mental health counseling experience.
  • Knowledge of the American School Counselor Association National Model.
  • Knowledge of Social Emotional learning and best practices.
  • Experience in school counseling leadership.
  • Experience in providing support to students for personal, social or emotional issues related to their educational and social progress.
  • Experience in developing support programs for students with common challenges affecting school success, and initiate intervention and prevention programming for high need students.
  • Skill in initiating, facilitating, and coordinating work relating to proactive advising and mentoring.
