SAMHSA Announces up to $3.75 Million in Funding To Enhance Training Efforts To Address Eating Disorders

SAMHSA is accepting applications for funding to create a center of excellence for training on the treatment of eating disorders. The purpose of the Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders grant program is to establish a national hub for the development and dissemination of training and technical assistance for health care practitioners. The grantee will help identify model programs and will ensure that high-quality training is provided to health professionals.
Addressing and treating eating disorders is a critical component of mental health care.  Many individuals across the country, particularly women, face the challenges of dealing with an eating disorder in their lifetime. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 0.5 percent to 3.7 percent of females have anorexia nervosa; approximately 1 percent of female adolescents have anorexia nervosa. Additionally, 1.1 percent to 4.2 percent of women have bulimia nervosa in their lifetime.
SAMHSA plans to issue one grant of $750,000 per year for 5 years. Domestic public and private nonprofit entities may apply.
Applications must be received by August 17, 2018, by 11:59 p.m. eastern time to be considered for review. For questions on grants management and budget issues, contact Gwendolyn Simpson at (240) 276-1408 or FOACMHS@samhsa.hhs.gov.
