Program Coordinator, Youth Service Counselor Position

Program Coordinator, Youth Service Counselor

Salary Range: $34,031.00 - $60,000.00
Hours per Week: 40 (Full-time)
Department: Juvenile Assessment and Prevention Center

Primary Responsibilities:

The core responsibility is to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) under the guidance of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The Counselor will offer a cost-effective program necessary to assist civil citation youth and youth in need of early intervention by providing necessary substance abuse counseling in order for them to become a successful member of our community. The Counselor would take referrals from civil citation and the truancy programs, located at the JAC, within the age range of 10-17. Caseload can consist of two juvenile groups (one middle and one high school level) of up to 10-12 youth in each group with the possibility of expanding future groups if the need arises. The Counselor would provide immediate need and connection to services that we do not currently receive through the community. The Counselor will conduct group and individual counseling on an as needs basis.

Essential Functions:

OVERALL GOAL: Current delays with the community service providers, waiting lists and constant turnover of staff makes it hard for youth and families to have a consistent and effective substance abuse treatment plan with consistent counseling. Currently one-third of our arrested youth and civil citation youth are reporting current drug use and 50% of our high risk youth have mental health needs (according to the Department of Juvenile Justice PACT profile-2015). By having early intervention and effective counseling, we can hope to reduce these figures.

Tasks Performed:

Duties will include: Conduct needs/psychosocial assessments. Develop goal/treatment plans (with attainable goal and objectives). Conduct individual and group substance abuse therapy. Develop discharge plan (to include links to services/community service referrals). Assist Juvenile Assessment Center and the Civil Citation Coordinator with monthly intake, withdrawals, and completion of reports.
