SouthernConnecticut State University (SCSU) seeks a visionary and innovative leader to serve as Director of Counseling Services. It is one of four universities in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System.  The University is located in New Haven, a city rich with arts and culture, and less than 90 miles from New York City and 140 miles from Boston.

The Director of Counseling Services will provide strategic and transformational leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive program of developmental therapeutic psycho-educational and outreach/preventative counseling and psychological services to the University community.  Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean ofStudents, the Director will provide leadership and supervision to the Counseling Center staff, facilitate student referrals to community providers, serve as a member of the Student Affairs case review team, plan and conduct staff/faculty training programs, and work cooperatively with other offices responsible for the delivery of support services to students.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the changing demographics and counseling needs of current and future students; understand mental health barriers that impede students’ progress to graduation; possess expert knowledge of best practices in college counseling services; and demonstrate success in developing new programs.  The preferred candidate will bring significant experience working collaboratively across campus, a strong team orientation, and success developing and supervising professional staff.  Additionally, the position requires keen organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks, effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, and effective engagement of multiple stakeholder groups.  

Qualified applicants must possess a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or a related field, and Connecticut licensure or eligibility for Connecticut licensure.  Five years of experience in counseling, including formulation and implementation of counseling services policy and staff supervision are required.
