School Counselor Position Open in Northern VA
The School
Counselor is a full time, 10-month salaried employee who will work with
students, faculty, and parents to support the social affective program
for students at Oakwood School. Oakwood is a K-8 school for students
with average to above average potential who have mild to moderate
learning disabilities without significant behavioral or emotional
issues.
Responsibilities:•
Point person for intervention of social/emotional issues and for
assisting students with self-regulation activities to enable them to
remain in the classroom
• Support teachers and staff in implementing school-wide behavior and social/affective programs at both the elementary and middle school levels
• Administrative responsibilities as assigned
• Create and lead presentations for staff, students, and parents on topics related to social/affective development
• Working and communicating with the entire "team" to serve students (including parents, teachers, supervisors, professionals, OT and Speech Therapists, etc.)
• Responsible for keeping up-to-date with current research in the field
• This position does not involve long-term group or individual therapy.

Requirements:• Graduate degree in counseling, social work, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a school as a counselor, specifically including Middle School
• Experience working with students have learning disabilities
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Counseling certification or license preferred, but not required
