Position Announcement - School Social Work Consultant

Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
School social work consultant position is part of the statewide Student Support Services Project at the University of South Florida. The position is assigned to the Florida Department of Education. This position provides statewide support services to all school districts in the state of Florida and to allied state agencies that provide mental health, wellness, safety and social services to students and families across Florida. The position is based in Tallahassee, Florida.
Responsibilities:
Training and technical assistance to districts, school social workers, university training programs focused on the social developmental needs and evidence based services for students with and without disabilities. Training and technical assistance to the above focused on foster care; compulsory attendance and the unique needs of students with disabilities. Policy analysis and implementation impacting the social, family and community factors/needs for students with and without disabilities. Core Flow responses focused on resolving requests for assistance from parents of students with disabilities (IDEA) and without disabilities (EIS). Training and technical assistance to districts related to problem-solving, assessment and intervention. Policy analysis and development for statutory and regulatory activities impacting special education
Technical assistance regarding procedures for implementation of IDEA State Performance Plan with emphasis on Indicators 9 and 10 (disproportionally). Technical assistance regarding mental health issues in a multi-tiered system of supports for students with disabilities. Serve as Department of Education liaison in collaboration with Department of Health, the Department of Children and Families, Executive Office of the Governor, in development of Child Abuse Prevention strategies for children with disabilities (IDEA) and without disabilities (EIS).
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in social work. Certification (or eligibility for certification) as a school social worker by the Florida Department of Education. Five or more years of experience as a school social worker at the school district level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using data-based planning and problem solving within a multi-tiered system of supports within school or district settings. Evidence of effectiveness planning and implementing family and community engagement efforts. Experience with policy development, analysis, and support. Experience collaborating and maintaining multi-agency partnerships. Demonstrated effectiveness with managing a heavy workload, flexibility, and teamwork. Evidence of effective leadership skills. Evidence of professional social skills in dealing successfully with sensitive topics and with stakeholders. Systems level consultation and problem-solving. Experience with professional association leadership.
