The Counselor Education Department at the State University of New York at
Plattsburgh invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Counselor
Education beginning August 2014.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities: Coordinate, provide leadership for,
and teach specialization courses within the CACREP accredited School
Counseling Program. Responsible for curriculum design and practicum and
internship placements. Teach courses such as Professional School
Counseling, Leadership and Advocacy in School Counseling, Counseling
Children and Adolescents, Internship in School Counseling, Introduction to
Family Counseling, Career Development in the Schools, and Psychopathology
of Children and Adolescents. Teach additional core courses for all
programs (including Student Affairs Counseling and Clinical Mental Health
Counseling), such as clinical courses, Cultural Contexts of Counseling,
and other courses as fits program needs and individual competencies. Other
responsibilities consistent with the role of university faculty include
scholarly productivity, student advisement, committee work, and community
service.

Required Qualifications:  An earned doctorate in Counselor Education and
Supervision by date of appointment (or, if doctorate is in a related
field, a minimum of one full academic year as a faculty member in a
counselor education program completed before July 1, 2013). ABD’s will be
considered for appointment at lesser (qualified) rank and salary,
conditioned upon proof that the applicant’s defense of his/her
dissertation is scheduled prior to the anticipated date of hire. An ABD
hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one
year only (2 years maximum). Familiarity with the ASCA National Standards
and Model, certification or licensure as a School Counselor, and full-time
employment as a school counselor. School counselor identity required.

Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and
Supervision, graduation from a CACREP accredited program, and NCC
credential preferred. Three years full-time experience as a school
counselor within the past 15 years. Teaching experience in a CACREP
accredited program, and background with career development, assessment,
research, and/or program evaluation in schools preferred. Professional
commitment to school counseling and counselor education (e.g., membership
in ACA, ASCA, and related organizations), and ability to collaborate with
and provide support for schools and school counselors in rural communities
strongly desired. Teaching experience in areas that reflect knowledge of
the eight CACREP core competency areas and experience in clinical
supervision. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and evidence of potential
to establish and implement a scholarly research agenda are required.
Salary: minimum salary $50,000 plus excellent benefits
