Director of Counseling Internships to join our Washington DC Campus.
We are searching for a Director of Counseling Internships to join our Washington DC Campus.

The Director of Internships, Department of Counseling, DC campus, oversees the practicum/internship experience for the students in our Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s program, and Counselor Education and Supervision Ph.D. program. The Director also acts as a liaison between the academic program administration and faculty, the training sites, and the students. This position directly reports to the Counselor Education Department Chair, and has a consultative relationship with the office of placement and training on the Chicago campus.
Facilitating Master’s and PhD students in Counseling, appropriate site placement who are approved for CMHC Practicum, and upon successful completion of Practicum, for Internships.
* Participate with faculty in the curricular development, improvement, and monitoring of the Practicum Seminar and Internship courses, and maintain alliance with CACREP core competencies and standards.
* Consult with the department chair on the development and maintenance of a network of practicum/internship sites, as well as relationships with site supervisors.
* Oversee the preparation of all students engaged in the practicum/internship search processes and practices, to apprise them of their responsibilities as well as the responsibilities of the sites and supervisors.
* Consult with students who are encountering issues related to their internship/practicum experience, both performance and non-performance based.
* Manage the flow of information regarding students’ progress and non-progress, or any non-academic problems, to department chair, site supervisors and student’s academic advisor.
* Oversee the review of internship/practicum evaluations and maintain alignment with program’s CACREP requirements and Assessment data.
* Maintain an active Counselor Education identity through the American Counseling Association, and its national divisions and area state branches (Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia).
* Maintain knowledge of best practice related to training as well as evolving requirements within the field of Counselor Education, within parameters of LPC licensure and CACREP standards.
* Ensure adherence to the LPC licensing laws of each state close to DC, as well as the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics.
* Gather and maintain student placement rates for practicum and internship
* Participate on at least one Faculty Council committee, as requested by the Chair.
* Work with Department Chair for courses within the clinical core for the Counseling Department.
Participate in department-level strategic planning regarding the accreditation process, CEU granting seminars, accreditation, and recruitment.
* Interact and communicate successfully with a diverse population specific to the DC campus.
* Act in a way that embodies the mission, vision and values of The Chicago School. Adhere to all confidentiality requirements.
* Other faculty duties as assigned by department chair.
* Teaching of nine graduate credit hours per year. (Three 3-credit courses).
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines while meeting or exceeding expectations.
Developing and maintaining constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
* Synthesizes the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
* Thinks critically to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems, and effectively communicates them.
* Excellent verbal and written Communication
* Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, needs, and demands.
* Knowledge of local and national training and licensing requirements
* Computer Proficiency MS Office
* Willingness to travel locally, and access to a vehicle for travel for regular site visitation.
* 1-2 years of professional training experience and graduate teaching experience
* Doctoral degree in Counselor Education, preferable from a CACREP accredited program
Licensed or license eligible in either Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia, as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
* Knowledge of and experience with CACREP accreditation procedures and the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics, particularly the internship and gatekeeping core.
