NEW POSITION: Assistant Professor – School Counseling
Summer or Fall 2014
NYIT’s School of Education invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure track position at the assistant rank in School Counseling.
Qualifications: an earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited institution, evidence of a developing research and publication record, ability to work with diverse student populations, a strong commitment to good teaching, experience as school counselor, a collaborative collegial disposition, interest in working with school/agency partners, familiarity with Transformed School Counseling, the ASCA National Model, and CACREP 2009 standards, and experience with instructional technology (Internet, instructional software, Blackboard, or other courseware).
The NYIT School Counseling Program prepares school counseling candidates to be educational leaders, social justice advocates, and system change agents with an emphasis on working in urban and suburban diverse settings. Coursework is designed especially for school counselor preparation and the faculty is committed to pedagogical innovation, strong partnerships with NYC and suburban school counselors, working with underserved and underrepresented Pre-k through 12 student populations, and educational equity.
Required qualifications for the position include:
• Doctorate conferred by August 1, 2014, in counselor education
• The demonstration of a clear vision for scholarship
• An understanding of and commitment to the principles of social justice and educational equity
• Doctorate degree from a CACREP accredited institution in counselor education
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
• Successful prior experience as a school counselor or supervisor of school counseling
• An active research agenda with evidence of scholarly productivity and publications
• Strong teaching and research skills
Assistant Professor of School Counseling – Course assignments may include: foundations/theory of counseling, human development, research, consultation, and participate on school and university committees. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, research, advising, curriculum development, and professional service. An emphasis is on preparing broadly skilled reflective practitioners and socially conscious leaders for school counseling careers in P-12 settings. This position will serve both the Manhattan and Old Westbury campuses as all school counseling faculty teach at both locations.
