The incumbent serves as a Social Worker, Counselor, at the Ft Myers, FL Vet Center, located in a community-based, store front setting. The Vet Center provides Veterans and their families with counseling, community outreach, therapy, education and referrals to VA and/or community resources. The counseling and therapeutic services provided by the Vet Center range from routine to complex and include suicide prevention, crisis intervention, short- and long-term treatment with clients exhibiting post-traumatic stress disorder, other psychiatric disorders and/or readjustment problems. Clients encountered and problems exhibited necessitates a variety of psychological, rehabilitation, marriage and family counseling and mental health techniques including, but not limited to, individual, group, conjoint, vocational, educational, substance abuse and readjustment counseling.

Provide broad-spectrum, brief counseling and psychotherapy, psychological assessment, consultation, case management/care coordination, and crisis intervention to students. Participate in Center's collaborative care services provided in coordination with our Student Health Center colleagues. Participate in culturally responsive outreach, training, and liaison activities, and provide services to diverse and under-served populations. Participate in the APA approved doctoral internship and other training programs by providing supervision and training to interns and other trainees. Serve as campus and professional organizations liaison. Provide outreach including psychological consultation and psycho-educational programming to students, faculty, and staff. Provide after-hours emergency coverage on a rotating basis and other after-hours services as needed. Fulfill other responsibilities as indicated and assigned. Adhere to professional ethics standards as mandated by state licensing board. Secure and maintain immunizations as mandated by local medical authorities and recommended by the Center for Disease Control. Operate under the close supervision of the Clinical Director. Periodically, this position may be asked to lead or contribute to either ad hoc or ongoing division/campus projects outside the scope of their day-to-day activities. This position operates under the close supervision of the Clinical Director. If not yet licensed the Clinical Director will assign a clinical supervisor. This position exercises supervision over Psychology interns and other trainees as assigned.

You will provide recovery-oriented rehabilitation services primarily for families. This position will also include group and individual counseling. Approximately 50% of patient census will be families, and 50% will be individual and group sessions for patients suffering from eating disorders, substance abuse disorders, and general mental health issues This position does require evening hours 3 days a week to accommodate family therapy and patient scheduling. We offer medical, dental, and vision coverage. This position includes 7 days planned paid vacation, 5 paid annual sick days, and up to 7 days unpaid leave annually.

FGCU’s psychological first aid team offers support in Everglades City
A group from Florida Gulf Coast University is helping make spirits brights after Hurricane Irma.
The university’s Marieb Psychological First Aid team showed up Friday at Everglades City School on East School Drive to deliver disaster relief to students affected by the storm.
“We just want to show them that we’re here and we’re supporting them. We’re hoping they’re going to continue moving forward,” FGCU Professor Dr. Alice Bartley said.
The psychological first aid team is made up of a group of trained students, staff and faculty that go into surrounding communities to also provide psychological help.
