Experts define ‘California Sober’ after Demi Lovato docuseries
This article includes the Department of Counseling's Dr. Yaro Garcia.
Demi Lovato released a four-part docuseries ‘Dancing with the Devil’, which explains her struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, including her overdose in 2018 that almost took her life.
The singer shared that she’s doing better, but she’s not exactly sober right now. Instead, she explained that she’s ‘California Sober.’
“Historically, California sober came from a mentality of culture that took things easy when it came to substance and didn’t make a big deal out of it,” said Dr. Yaro Garcia, clinical coordinator at FGCU.
Experts say it’s normal to feel uncomfortable about no masks
This story includes the Department of Counseling's Dr. Alise Bartley.
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Feeling weird about taking the mask off after months of having to put one on? Experts said it’s normal.
“It was hard for us to put our masks on, so of course it’s going to be more challenging for some of us to take them off,” said Florida Gulf Coast University Counseling Center Director Dr. Alise Bartley.
This week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new guidance saying anyone who is fully vaccinated can opt not to wear a mask in most situations, indoors or out.
Dr. Bartley said getting used to it really comes down to our habits.
