 Kehillah Jewish High School is seeking an experienced full-time School Counselor to advance student personal/social development and support academic growth. Working closely with the Director of Jewish Life and Learning and the Director of Learning Services, the School Counselor will collaborate and consult with parents and faculty regarding student academic and emotional needs to provide a dynamic learning environment.

This is a Full-Time position beginning August 1, 2021.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate a school counseling and guidance program that includes personal and social development.
  • Lead 10th Grade Health and Wellness Seminar.
  • Provide school-wide prevention and intervention strategies and counseling services.
  • Provide short-term counseling to individual students and groups with identified concerns and needs.
  • Collaborate with other staff to design and implement wellness programming for students and staff.
  • Offer educational and wellness-related programming to parents, using a combination of in-person and online offerings.
  • Be available to manage immediate concerns such as a threat of self-harm.
  • Mediate conflict between students and teachers.
  • Communicate with outside mental health and medical providers as needed, and provide appropriate follow-up to school personnel.
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
  • Partner with Learning Services to develop appropriate interventions and accommodations for students with mental health needs.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
  • Assist Director of Jewish Life and Learning in developing programming to develop life skills including goal-setting, support plans, assertiveness training, and related topics.
  • Work as a member of the Student Support Team.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all students counseled.
  • Implement an effective referral and follow-up process, as needed.
  • Maintain current and appropriate resources for students, staff, and families.
  • Attend and conduct staff and faculty in-service meetings to develop professional attitudes and skills including suicide prevention efforts.
  • Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to educate stakeholders (i.e., administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community/business leaders).
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
  • Teach one class (as needed).

  • Proficient in evaluating social-emotional needs, crisis intervention, and collaborative treatment.
  • Experienced counseling students from diverse backgrounds and supporting neurodiversity.

  • Applies common sense and extreme diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality in written and oral forms.
  • Actively pursues professional development throughout the year to improve skills and knowledge in current trends.

Qualifications

  • California licensed clinician registered and in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Credentialed School Counselor (PPSC or equivalent) and member of ASCA.
  • Experienced working at independent schools preferred.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience with school-based clinical work.

  • Navigate a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and diverse contacts which may at times be stressful.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to, computers, copy machines, and telephones.
  • Travel safely and comfortably across a two-story, 50,000 sq. ft. campus several times in a workday.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Turn, bend, kneel, crouch, or reach overhead to retrieve materials and may occasionally use a ladder.
  • Available and willing to attend and work on overnight trips.

Gulfcoast South AHEC's Public Health Education Internship

Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center (GSAHEC) envisions healthy communities where every person has access to quality care. Our mission is to provide health education that improves the well-being of the communities we serve.  Through our work, we connect students to careers, professionals to communities and communities to better health. Our goal is to inspire, train, recruit and retain a diverse and broad range of health professionals to practice in communities where the need is greatest.

GSAHEC is a not for profit organization affiliated with the University of South Florida AHEC Program. GSAHEC was established in 1995 and serves Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee and Sarasota counties. We are part of a larger, statewide network, the Florida AHEC Network, which includes five AHEC Programs and 10 Centers covering all 67 counties of the state. We are also an active member of the National AHEC Organization, which supports AHEC Programs and Centers that operate in almost every state and the District of Columbia.

This Public Health Education Internship is designed to provide health professions students interested in working with rural and medically underserved populations a chance to use their public health knowledge, contribute their ideas and skills, and observe and assist with GSAHEC programming.  The public health education intern works with health professionals, students, and community and academic partners to ensure successful program experiences.
